An overcoat? In August?

Kelvedon village fête at St Mary's Road 14 August 1957.

My only recollection of that day is that it was the first time I heard my recorded voice.
The vehicle, an Austin I believe, was green.

I wonder if the overcoat was itchy. You were a handsome boy!

Don't remember if the overcoat was itchy. I just wondered why I was wearing it in August. Like many of my clothes at that time I expect it was home-made by a lady in the village. Mum used to knit all the pullovers I wore and a few shirts. . . .

I love homemade stuff...maybe because my precious blankie (a strawberry the shortcake pillow case that I toted around and sucked my thumb with) was home made. I just love it! I didn't have much that was home made when I was growing up. My mom didn't like sewing much. Though she did take some old sheets and a ratty quilt and make me a "new" comforter. That was the best comforter I've ever owned.
My mother in law knits like all kinds of things like your mother probably did. Mine does it to keep her busy and sane...ha.
