Edward FitzGerald made several translations of the Rubaiyat but his first version is usually the one with which we are all familiar 

EDIT 6 Oct 2009: The Folio Society is publishing a special edition of 1000 copies of the Rubaiyat to celebrate the sesquicentennial of Edward FitzGerald's translation. It is richly illustrated by Niroot Puttapipat.
